The Off-field Buzz Outshines the On-field Action! Copa America Launches a Missing Persons Notice: Call If Your Loved Ones Are Arrested

On July 15, during the Copa America final where Argentina faced Colombia, the Hard Rock Stadium hosting the match had to delay the kickoff due to the stadium’s inability to handle the surge of ticketless fans. Additionally, off the field, someone took advantage of the situation by advertising a service to help locate arrested relatives.

The advertisement read, “Were you or your loved ones arrested during the Copa America football final in Miami? Please call.”

The Copa America final between Argentina and Colombia was originally scheduled to kick off at 8 PM. However, due to the overwhelming presence of ticketless fans, the start time had to be repeatedly pushed back. Eventually, the match began nearly an hour and a half later than planned.

The Copa America tournament held in the United States has been marred by repeated incidents, raising doubts about the country’s capability to host major football events. In 2025, the United States will host the Club World Cup for the first time with 32 participating teams; then in 2026, it will stage the FIFA World Cup. These two upcoming tournaments will pose even greater challenges for the organizers.
