According to well-known journalist David Ornstein from The Athletic, Marseille has reached an agreement with Manchester United for the transfer of Mason Greenwood. The total transfer fee could reach €31.6 million, pending the player’s consent.
The report states that if the transfer goes through, Marseille will have to pay Manchester United a fixed transfer fee of €27.6 million (approximately £23.3 million). There is also a variable clause worth €4 million (approximately £3.4 million). Additionally, should Marseille sell Greenwood in the future, Manchester United will receive a significant percentage of the resale fee.
However, not long ago, when asked about this transfer, Marseille’s mayor Payan said: “Greenwood’s behavior is indescribable and unacceptable. He beat his girlfriend… The images I saw were shocking. Treating one’s girlfriend in such a manner does not befit a man. He won’t find his place in Marseille. Marseille has its own values and will not tolerate violence against women. I will request the president of Marseille not to sign Greenwood.”
