Spanish Media: Mbappé Won’t Have Special Privileges at Real Madrid—Vinicius to Take Penalties in New Season

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, French star Kylian Mbappé will not be granted penalty-taking rights after joining Real Madrid.

Last month, Mbappé officially transferred to Real Madrid. Afterward, he enjoyed a vacation and thus missed Real Madrid’s pre-season tour of the United States.

However, Mbappé has been training diligently, preparing for the UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta on August 15th.

According to Marca, Mbappé will not be given penalty-taking rights in the new season at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has chosen Vinicius Junior as the team’s designated penalty taker for the upcoming season. Last season, the Brazilian star was also Real Madrid’s penalty taker.

In the past, Mbappé had penalty-taking rights at Paris Saint-Germain. In the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season, Mbappé successfully converted six penalties.

In the summer friendlies of 2024, Real Madrid lost to AC Milan and Barcelona but defeated Chelsea. Following this, they will return to Spain to prepare for the upcoming UEFA Super Cup.

In the United States, Ancelotti told reporters, “Obviously, Mbappé can participate in the Super Cup. Bellingham can too, as well as other players. They are ready, the players have been following the plan, everyone can play.”
