Beijing Youth wrote: “The Paris Olympics will be the first Olympic Games in the history of the National Table Tennis Team with absolutely no players using the penhold grip participating. After the Beijing Olympics, the new reforms of the International Table Tennis Federation weakened the threat of the penhold grip style. In 2012, only Wang Hao participated in the London Olympics; in 2016 at the Rio and in 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics, only Xu Xin competed. By the 2024 Paris Olympics, there will be no players using the penhold grip present.”
