According to Reuters, a British media outlet, in order to secure the hosting rights for the 2034 World Cup, Saudi Arabia’s sports authorities plan to construct a super-sized stadium in Riyadh capable of accommodating 92,000 spectators.
The report states that the Saudi sports authorities have already approved this ambitious project. According to further information from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the super-sized stadium is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2029. Once operational, the stadium will serve as the home ground for the Saudi national team and form part of a larger sports complex. The facility will feature an Olympic-standard swimming pool, indoor sports hall, and other sports amenities. The stadium will be named after King Salman of Saudi Arabia.
Currently, six design firms from various countries have submitted their proposals, all of which meet FIFA requirements, sustainability standards, and architectural excellence. In March of this year, Saudi Arabia launched its bid to host the 2034 World Cup. At present, Saudi Arabia is the only candidate country and is virtually assured of securing the hosting rights for the 2034 World Cup.
