French Media: Mbappé Spends Millions to Acquire Ligue 2 Club Caen, Becoming the Team's Official Owner

July 30: According to French media outlet Le Parisien, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has recently acquired a majority stake in Ligue 2 club Caen for less than 20 million euros, officially becoming the owner of Caen.

It is reported that Mbappé will take on part of the club’s debt. He will replace the American investment fund Oaktree Capital Management as the largest shareholder in the team. This U.S.-based investment fund had acquired 80% of Caen’s shares back in 2020.

The French media analyzed why Mbappé chose to acquire Caen. The reason is that Mbappé was originally set to join Caen to start his professional career but ultimately chose Monaco as his starting point in 2013. Joining Caen had always been one of his goals.

According to the media, Mbappé will entrust someone he trusts to manage the club. Zyad Hamoud, former Director of Strategy and Investments at beIN Media Group and currently CEO of Kilian Mbappé Image Company, will take over as chairman of the club.
