On July 16, according to French media outlet L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) President Nasser sparked a dispute with other club owners during a meeting to discuss broadcasting rights for the new Ligue 1 season.
It is understood that several Ligue 1 clubs proposed creating a dedicated broadcasting channel for the league, which could be operated by Warner Bros. This proposal received support from multiple club owners. However, during a recent Ligue 1 meeting, PSG President Nasser opposed this idea, and his veto prevented the proposal from being approved.
Notably, Nasser is not only the owner of PSG but also a broadcasting company owner, meaning the creation of this channel would directly conflict with his personal interests. Warner Bros expressed dissatisfaction and accused Nasser of selfish behavior, leading to an outburst from the PSG president and even threatening to leave the meeting.
Furthermore, Nasser clashed with the owners of clubs such as Lyon and others who were actively pushing for the creation of the broadcasting channel. These owners did not want to hand over broadcasting rights to companies like DAZN and beIN. In response, Nasser angrily retorted, “This is outrageous! There is no league in the world with its own dedicated channel—it’s unheard of!”
