Spanish Media: Former Argentine Star Savio Held for Drunk Driving, Spent Night in Police Custody

According to Spanish media, former Argentine star, Savio, was recently arrested for driving under the influence and spent a night in police custody. This former Argentine international had played for European giants such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Portugal’s Benfica before retiring from his career at his home club River Plate in 2016.

As reported by the Spanish media outlet Altaveu, Savio, nicknamed “The Rabbit,” was stopped by police last weekend for driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred during a routine check for drunk and drug-impaired driving.

While specific details have not been fully disclosed, it has been confirmed that Savio was apprehended around 11:30 PM on Sunday evening while returning home after a party.

Notably, Spanish law allows drivers to have a blood alcohol concentration of no more than 0.5 grams per liter (or 0.25 milligrams per liter in exhaled air). However, Savio’s blood alcohol concentration was measured at 1.10 grams per liter, significantly exceeding the legal limit.

Upon being handed over to judicial authorities, the case proceeded quickly to trial, resulting in a criminal conviction. The sentence included probation, a fine of a certain amount, and a temporary suspension of his driver’s license. “According to inside sources, the license suspension will not exceed one year.”
