In an interview while preparing for the new season with Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski admitted that his performance last season, including his own, did not meet expectations. However, Lewandowski pledged to strive to present a new self in the new season and compete for honors on behalf of the team.
Despite nearing the age of 36, Lewandowski stated that there are no issues with his physical condition, “While I admit I’m getting older, my body doesn’t feel any problems, and it’s even at its best state in recent years.”
Lewandowski then acknowledged that his performance last season was unsatisfactory, “Last season, there were some physical issues for me, and I clearly know where I fell short, but also where I can improve. I believe I can still score plenty of goals.”
Following the coaching change at the end of last season, Lewandowski also believes that under Flick’s leadership, the team must make changes to regain strength, “With the new coach, we have to work harder. If we want to win trophies, this is the only way. Our team has great potential, but we need to become a cohesive unit to achieve our best.”
Regarding the departing Xavi, Lewandowski shared his thoughts, “He took over the team during a difficult time and is emotionally very close to Barcelona. He did well, although the final results may not have been perfect, and he also made some changes.”
Speaking about Mbappé joining Real Madrid, Lewandowski commented that another outstanding player has arrived in La Liga.
