Prior to this, Manchester United officially announced the signing of 18-year-old defensive prospect Yaro from Lille, with a transfer fee reported to be 62 million euros. According to The Athletic, Yaro was also a player that Liverpool had been closely monitoring, but for various reasons, the Reds did not proceed with the transfer.
The report indicates that within Liverpool, there has always been high praise for Yaro. However, due to the player’s demand for assurances regarding playing time from his new club, Liverpool ultimately did not make a formal offer to Yaro.
In Liverpool’s view, Yaro is a promising star with significant potential, but not yet ready to step in as a first-choice defender. This means that with the likes of Van Dijk, Konate, Kavanagh, and Gomez available at center-back, Liverpool could not guarantee Yaro consistent playing time.
Additionally, Lille’s asking price of over 50 million pounds for Yaro was another reason that deterred Liverpool. They believed that paying such a high amount for a youngster with fewer than 60 senior appearances was too risky, exceeding the risk threshold the club was willing to accept.
