Recently, in an interview with Brazil’s Globo Esporte, Lyon President John Textor criticized Paris Saint-Germain’s management model, arguing that the presence of petro-capital has left other Ligue 1 clubs without hope.
As president of Olympique Lyonnais, the 58-year-old American John Textor is highly critical of PSG’s “unlimited money” approach and believes that as long as this continues, Lyon and other Ligue 1 teams will always be playing second fiddle. Textor said, “We are actually competing against a nation. We are competing against Qatar in Ligue 1, not against a club or a group. They can have an unchecked spending model, with no limits. They have enough money and circumvent regulations through sponsorship models from Qatar, then they can use the money wherever they need it. To win the Champions League, they spare no expense.”
Textor is clearly unhappy with the current situation, his words increasingly tinged with hostility. He said, “As the owner of one of the biggest football clubs in France, we once won the Ligue 1 title for seven consecutive seasons, and we must face this competition head-on. But today, the great Olympique Lyonnais can only compete for second place. We will go all out, hoping to kick their ass hard and give them a terrible season. But in reality, they just need to reach into their pockets, casually pull out some cash, and it’s all over.”
