In the men’s 100m freestyle final that concluded in the early hours of this morning, Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle swam an astonishing 46.40 seconds, breaking the world record to win gold powerfully.
According to North Youth Sports, at the post-race press conference, The New York Times, which had previously carried out false reporting about the Chinese swimming team’s doping issues, posed a challenge to Pan Zhanle.
The reporter asked: “In this competition, the Chinese swimming team has received a lot of attention. I wonder if it was difficult for you to dispel doubts around your team before your own test results came back negative?”
Pan Zhanle responded firmly: “I underwent 29 tests last year, and not once did I test positive. This year, from the start of the championship in May to July, there were 21 tests, and not once did I test positive. Today is my second test here, which is an in-competition test. Next, we look forward to the results.”
When asked about the impact of frequent doping tests, Pan Zhanle said: “There’s no significant impact because they are all conducted within the specified times and rules. So, it’s nothing significant.”
