According to The Athletic (TA), Newcastle United has submitted its first official offer for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The offer was made within the past few days, with Newcastle hoping to complete a key signing that will strengthen the squad before the new season. Currently, negotiations for this potential transfer are ongoing. Sky Sports reports that Crystal Palace has set a price of £60 million for Guehi.
Guehi is 24 years old and his contract with Crystal Palace runs until 2026. So far, he has not shown any inclination to renew his contract. This defender has not only caught the eye of Newcastle but is also a target for several other top European clubs. However, Newcastle has taken the lead by becoming the first club to make an official offer.
In the summer transfer window of 2021, Guehi concluded his time at Chelsea, joining Crystal Palace on a permanent deal. Since then, he has become an indispensable member of the team, making 111 appearances and scoring five goals for the club.
On the international stage, Guehi has also been impressive. During this summer’s Euros, he served as a key center-back for the England national team, helping the Three Lions reach the final. Apart from being suspended due to accumulated yellow cards in the quarterfinal against Switzerland, he played almost every minute of the tournament.
To fill the gap that Guehi’s potential departure could leave, Crystal Palace has been active in the summer transfer market, bringing in Chadi Riad from Real Betis to add depth to the central defense position. Additionally, the team signed winger Ismaila Sarr and midfielder Daichi Kamada, while Michael Olise, James Tomkins, and Jairo Riedewald have departed Selhurst Park.
