According to Spanish media outlet Sport, Barcelona is considering signing the 33-year-old French midfielder Kanté on loan.
Kanté transferred from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 and currently plays for Al-Ittihad Jeddah in the Saudi league. Surprisingly, he was called up to the French national team for this year’s European Championship and demonstrated exceptional form in the matches he played for France, even being named MVP in two consecutive games.
According to Sport, while pursuing reinforcements for their forward positions, Barcelona also hopes to sign a strong-running defensive midfielder during this summer transfer window, with Kanté now one of their targets.
It is understood that over the past two years, Barcelona has been interested in bringing Kanté to the club, but for various reasons, the transfer had not progressed to a concrete stage. Now, his impressive performance at the European Championship has reignited Barcelona’s interest in him.
Currently, Barcelona’s plan is to bring Kanté to the team through a loan deal. However, Al-Ittihad Jeddah may be unwilling to let Kanté go, as they previously rejected a transfer offer from West Ham United.
