Motorcycle Rider Kills Pedestrian: French Rising Star Sentenced to Probation for Manslaughter

According to French media reports, 18-year-old French striker Matthis Rambaud was sentenced to two years of probation after causing a fatality in a traffic accident.

Rambaud is a member of the Rennes team and is considered one of the top talents among the generation of players born in 2006 in France.

On June 18, 2024, Rambaud was riding his father’s motorcycle with a friend through downtown Rennes. Due to heavy traffic, he had to drive onto the sidewalk, accidentally hitting a 51-year-old female pedestrian.

The speed at the time of the accident was approximately 20 kilometers per hour, resulting in severe injuries to the woman who later passed away. Police tests showed that Rambaud had neither consumed alcohol nor taken drugs at the time of the incident.

In the subsequent criminal trial, Rambaud admitted that his motorcycle was not insured. He stated that this was the first time he had driven this motorcycle and explained that due to traffic congestion, he was forced to drive onto the sidewalk.

In the end, Rambaud was found guilty of manslaughter and received a suspended sentence of two years. Additionally, his driving license was revoked, and he is prohibited from reapplying for one year. If he commits another crime during the probation period, he could face up to seven years of actual imprisonment.

Rambaud is one of the top talents among the generation of players born in 2006 in France, alongside other rising stars like Zaire Emery (Paris Saint-Germain), Elli Kroupi (Lorient), and Georges Eyenkena (Monaco). He made his league debut last season, coming on as a substitute against Lille. Furthermore, as a member of the French U17 national team, he also helped the team secure runner-up positions in the 2023 U17 European Championship and the U17 World Cup.
