Despite Nicolas Jackson’s existing contract with Chelsea not expiring for another seven years, the club surprisingly opted to extend his contract prematurely.
According to The Athletic (TA), Jackson has agreed to a new contract, and both parties are expected to officially announce this news soon.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also provided additional details: “Nicolas Jackson has just signed a new deal with Chelsea, extending his contract until June 2033. The club is satisfied with his performance in the Premier League and considers him an important part of their future plans.”
However, Chelsea’s decision to renew the contract early has sparked controversy. This forward joined Stamford Bridge last summer for a transfer fee of 37 million euros, signing an eight-year contract that was set to expire in July 2031. Therefore, choosing to renew when there were still seven years left on the current contract is perplexing.
Some fans expressed on social media, “Nine years? No other club operates like this. It’s crazy!”
Another fan pointed out, “What kind of contracts is Chelsea offering these players? I’ve never seen such contracts, ever. Unfathomable.”
Jackson’s performance cannot be considered poor, but it’s also not particularly outstanding, and he struggles with capitalizing on goal-scoring opportunities. He sometimes displays impressive performances but also frequently misses chances to score.
In the third round of the Premier League on September 1st, Jackson helped Chelsea take the lead against Crystal Palace. However, he also missed several golden opportunities, ultimately leading to a 1-1 draw.
Jackson’s speed, acceleration, and dribbling skills are his strengths, combined with his wide range of movement. If he can improve his shooting technique, he will undoubtedly contribute more to the team.
