According to The Independent, a black woman was charged after discussing a Premier League match on social media, where she commented on Newcastle United player Isaac and used the “N-word” against another black woman in the replies of her tweet.
The Code for Crown Prosecutors states, “If the criminal behavior is motivated by any form of bias based on the actual or perceived ethnicity or nationality, gender, disability, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or gender identity of the victim; or if the suspect targets, exploits, or shows hostility towards the victim based on any of these characteristics, then it is more likely that a prosecution will take place.”
