Simeone: Facing the Copa del Rey Champions from Last Season Will Be Tough; Our Goal Is to Compete for All Trophies

At 1:00 AM on September 1st, La Liga will see its fourth round match, with Atletico Madrid set to face Athletic Bilbao away from home. Ahead of this match, Simeone attended a press conference.

In the previous three rounds, Atletico Madrid secured one win and two draws. Regarding this, Simeone said, “There were some minor surprises in the games, but apart from that, we are doing well. We are now full of confidence.”

When talking about their opponents for this round, Athletic Bilbao, Simeone mentioned, “Every time we play against Athletic Bilbao, we know it will be very tough. They are a strong opponent. Last season, they performed excellently and even won the Copa del Rey. We need to give our all to ensure the game proceeds according to our plan.”

Regarding the goals for this season, Simeone stated, “Since I joined this team 12 years ago, our goal has been to compete for all the trophies available during the season.”

Speaking about changes in the team’s formation, Simeone said, “These changes depend on the type of opponent we face. You can see that we have changed formations, but you don’t understand the reasons behind them. Each team has different characteristics, and as a coach, I must identify the weaknesses of our opponents and use these to defeat them.”

Regarding the changes in the Champions League format, Simeone said, “We don’t know what the new format will bring; there is no precedent for this. Our upcoming opponents are clear, and we will play against all of them, match by match, with the most important thing being to accumulate as many points as possible.”
