On August 19, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) officially announced the results of the competitive negotiation for the 2024 Chinese FA Cup Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. Sony Corporation emerged as the successful party and will become the official VAR service provider for this season’s FA Cup.
Previously, the CFA had issued a public tender notice titled “Competitive Negotiation Announcement for the 2024 Chinese FA Cup Video Assistant Referee System Cooperation Project,” inviting bids for the VAR service supplier from the quarterfinals to the final of the FA Cup.
The official announcement from the CFA stated: “This project involves the provision of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) services for the 2024 Chinese FA Cup. The final cooperation partner will be determined through a competitive negotiation process. The service includes providing VAR support for seven matches from Round Six to Round Eight (i.e., quarterfinals to the final) of the 2024 Chinese FA Cup. If possible, a semi-automated offside system may be used in the final.”
The CFA has now confirmed that Sony (China) Co., Ltd. has won the bid in this round of negotiations. They will be responsible for providing VAR services for all seven matches from the quarterfinals to the final of this season’s FA Cup.
