According to British media outlet The Sun, Brazilian police have dropped their investigation into allegations of domestic abuse against Manchester United winger Antony. After a year-long investigation, Brazilian authorities found no evidence.
The 24-year-old Brazilian winger was accused last year of domestic violence and abuse against his former partner Gabriela Cavallin. Additionally, two other women accused Antony of assault, though one later withdrew her accusation. Antony firmly denied these accusations and was granted leave by Manchester United last season to deal with the allegations.
According to Brazil’s Globo website, after a year-long investigation, Brazilian police did not find any evidence of improper conduct by Antony.
Last year, complainant Gabriela Cavallin gave numerous interviews, accusing Antony of domestic violence while she was pregnant in June 2022; assaulting her and causing physical injury in January 2023; and throwing a glass at her in May, which injured her finger. This week, Cavallin also told The Sun that she feels “completely destroyed” and is “very disappointed that this winger has been allowed to return to football.”
With Brazilian police finding no evidence and dropping the case, Antony hopes to now focus on football. Last season, Antony’s off-field troubles affected his performance, playing for a total of 1910 minutes across all competitions for Manchester United, scoring only 3 goals and providing 2 assists. Recently, he stated: “Obviously, I am very dissatisfied with my performance, but a lot has happened in my personal life over the past year, and it has all impacted my game. Without doubt, everything I’ve gone through has been very difficult for me and my family, from which I’ve learned a lot, grown, and matured. I’m sure that I’ve learned a lot from adversity.”
