Following Southgate’s departure from his role as head coach of the England national team, Casley has become the interim successor. According to UK media reports today, former England star Ashley Cole has also joined the coaching staff as Casley’s assistant coach.
Ashley Cole is one of only nine players who have represented the England national team in over 100 matches, and this marks his first time joining the England national team as a coach. Cole previously worked with Casley in the England U21 national team, where they jointly won the 2023 U21 European Championship.
Ashley Cole has previously served as the head coach of Chelsea’s U15 team and has collaborated twice with Lampard in Everton and Chelsea’s senior teams. In October 2023, Birmingham officially announced that Cole would serve as Rooney’s assistant coach. In addition to Cole, Lesko and Dietmar, who previously worked with Casley in the U21 England national team, have also been selected for the England interim coaching staff.
On September 8, 2024, England will play in the Nations League, and the new coaching staff will make their debut in the match against Ireland.
