In this round of the Eredivisie, Ajax suffered an unexpected loss to newly promoted side Volendam, drawing considerable criticism.
Ajax head coach Farrioli stated in a post-match interview: “I still stand by my choices; we haven’t reached the level where we can play three matches a week. Eight players couldn’t handle it, and it was my responsibility to field them consecutively. I must reiterate that after a tough season, we need to rebuild here. We are far from perfect, but we are doing our best.”
When asked by reporters why Ajax has yet to produce football that satisfies people, Farrioli appeared frustrated: “Then tell me what Ajax football is supposed to be? Non-offensive? We penetrated their box over forty times. It’s true, Ajax shouldn’t have lost, but not every player is suited for three matches a week.”
