On August 23rd, 33-year-old German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan officially announced his departure from Barcelona and return to Manchester City. He also posted an open letter on social media bidding farewell to Barcelona and its fans after a year of service.
Gundogan wrote: “Dear Barcelona fans, it’s time to say goodbye after just one year. I came here ready for a new and exciting challenge. Throughout this tough season, I gave everything to contribute to the team and the club, and I looked forward to helping my teammates in a new journey.”
“Now, I leave under difficult circumstances, but if my departure can help financially, then that will ease my sadness somewhat.”
