In the first round of the 2024/25 Premier League season, Liverpool defeated Ipswich 2-0. After the match, Liverpool midfielder Szoboszlai gave an exclusive interview to the club.
About the first round match
It’s great to get all three points. We knew we had to be ready from the first minute, and in the second half, we responded appropriately. Jota broke the deadlock, followed by Salah adding another goal. The three points are satisfying, but we also learned some things.
About adjustments made during halftime
This was a tough game, and we needed to stay alert, control possession, push forward, and make the opponents run, but it didn’t work out well. This is where we needed to adjust. In the second half, we controlled the game for most of the time, creating more chances, which is what we wanted to achieve from the start.
About the coach’s demands on him
Previously, we had one player in the six role and two eights in midfield. Now it’s a six, eight, ten setup. Sometimes I drop back, and at other times, my position remains unchanged. When we have possession, I need to participate more in the attack, and when we don’t have the ball, I need to do my job, just as I did last season.
About the team’s recovery to its previous form
We’ve had a long pre-season, and not everyone has been involved, so we still need time to come together. Last year, we were familiar with each other, but now we’re facing a new system and a different style of football. However, I believe that over time, we’ll get to know each other again.
