Souness: Liverpool’s Minimum Target for This Season Should Be the Top Four; Slot Would Struggle to Improve Team Performance

Despite Slot having a fairly smooth start at Liverpool, legendary footballer Souness believes that Slot will find it difficult to surpass last season’s performance.

Slot took over from Klopp as Liverpool’s new head coach this summer. In his Premier League debut, Liverpool defeated Ipswich 2-0.

However, Liverpool have not signed any new players during the summer transfer window, which makes Souness skeptical about the team’s ability to improve their ranking.

Souness said: “Klopp led Liverpool to third place last season, an achievement recognized by everyone. He believed he had taken the team to its limits, but could only finish in third place. I think Slot needs to strengthen the squad in some positions because if even Klopp couldn’t break through the third-place barrier, they are unlikely to do much better this season.”

“Initially, I thought Klopp’s successor was taking over a very ideal position. But now it seems that this position is not as perfect as imagined. Liverpool’s performance in key moments has been less than satisfactory. Of course, coaching Liverpool is still an excellent opportunity, and Slot will bring new vitality into the locker room. However, the current situation is not as ideal as before.”

“Slot’s minimum target for this season should be to ensure the team finishes in the top four. In addition, he needs to achieve good results in the Champions League, reaching at least the semi-finals. These should be his goals for this season.”
