Maresca: Nkunku and Jackson Have Performed Well This Season; Despite Our Youth, We Do Not Underestimate Any Opponent

On September 25, in the third round of the EFL Cup, Chelsea secured a 5-0 victory over Barrow at home, advancing to the next stage. After the match, Chelsea’s head coach Maresca gave an interview expressing his satisfaction with the team’s performance.

Maresca first talked about the offensive performance of Chelsea players; “Last season, I was not coaching Chelsea, so it’s hard for me to judge the situation then. This season, Nkunku and Jackson have performed exceptionally well. It’s not just that they’ve scored many goals, but also their excellent performances on the field and in training. Maresca also mentioned the performance of the wing-backs; “We adjust our game plan based on different opponents. In the first half, Gusto, and in the second half, Chilwell, pushed forward like attacking midfielders to strengthen the team’s offense.”

Despite the weak opponent, Maresca emphasized that the team did not let up; “I’ve previously told the team that we are the youngest team in the league, and I’ve also reminded the players that they must take the games seriously.”

Maresca commented on the result of the match, saying, “I am very satisfied with both the team’s performance on the field and the result. We made many changes, but our goal remained the same. No matter who our opponent is, striving for victory will always be our top priority.”
