Rooney Backs Ten Hag: He is an Excellent Coach, but the Key to United’s Revival Lies with the Players

Despite Ten Hag being on the brink of dismissal, Manchester United legend Rooney expressed in an interview that the Red Devils’ revival mainly depends on the performance of the players, and Ten Hag has already proven himself to be an excellent coach.

Consecutive five winless matches on two fronts have once again pushed Ten Hag to the edge of being sacked, and the Manchester United management is about to convene a meeting to decide Ten Hag’s future.

Despite this, Rooney still firmly believes in Ten Hag’s capabilities, “Whether to change the manager or not obviously depends on the club’s management, but I still firmly believe Ten Hag is an excellent coach. He has won trophies in many places, and it’s the same at Manchester United. Currently, he is going through a difficult period, and I believe he also thinks so himself.”

Rooney then shifted his focus, believing that frequent managerial changes cannot lead to Manchester United’s revival, “Manchester United always hopes to rebuild the team with a new coach, yet regardless of how the lineup changes, it hasn’t been too effective. Anyone would think Manchester United needs to challenge for the league title, but now they are ranked 14th, I think everyone knows they need to improve their performance.”

Rooney believes that the key to whether Manchester United can revive lies more with the performance of the players, “I know Ten Hag is trying to change the situation, but as I said last season, the players need to do better than they are now. Only if the players perform better, can they challenge for the league title.”
