First Match Upset Loss to UAE, Qatar Emergently Calls up Naturalized Forward Edimilson for National Team

The first match of the World Cup Asian Qualifiers group stage saw Qatar suffer an upset 1-3 loss to the UAE. Before the second round away game against North Korea, the Qatar Football Association officially announced that the team will emergently call up Edimilson, the naturalized forward from Qatar’s powerhouse Al Duhail, into the national team.

The 30-year-old Edimilson was born in Brazil and came to Belgium at a young age, playing for Sint-Truiden and Standard Liège successively. In 2018, Edimilson moved to Qatar, joining Al Duhail and has been playing there since.

Currently, Edimilson has completed his naturalization procedures and is expected to make his debut for the Qatar national team in the World Cup qualifier match against North Korea.
