On September 19, Anderlecht announced the dismissal of head coach Rimer. According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Van Bommel has become one of the key candidates for the new managerial position at Anderlecht.
Van Bommel previously coached Antwerp in Belgium for two seasons, leading the team to their first top-flight league title in 66 years in his first season. At the end of last season, Van Bommel left due to the expiration of his contract and has been out of work since.
Anderlecht’s start to the Belgian First Division A this season has been less than impressive, with a total of 9 goals scored and 7 conceded in the first seven rounds, resulting in 3 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss, accumulating 12 points and placing them fourth in the league table, 4 points behind leaders Genk.
