Severe Penalty! Preston North End Player Banned for Biting Opponent During EFL Championship Match

According to The Guardian, Preston North End striker Milutin Ostojic has been banned for eight matches by the English Football Association (FA) after biting an opponent during a match.

Last month, in an EFL Championship game against Blackburn Rovers, Ostojic bit the opposing defender, Owen Beck. At the time, he was only shown a yellow card. However, following a review of the match footage, the FA decided to impose a harsher punishment on the Montenegrin player.

This punishment draws parallels with the 2013 incident involving Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, who bit Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic and received a ten-match ban. In comparison, Ostojic’s penalty is an eight-match suspension plus a £15,000 fine.

In its official statement, the FA said: “Following improper conduct that occurred during the EFL Championship match between Preston North End and Blackburn Rovers on September 22nd, Milutin Ostojic has been suspended for eight matches and fined £15,000. The forward admitted that he engaged in violent conduct, specifically biting an opponent, around the 87th minute of the match. An independent commission made this decision after hearing evidence, and the detailed reasons for the ruling will be published subsequently.”

In addition, Ostojic will face internal disciplinary action from Preston North End. Club chairman Peter Ridsdale commented: “We have communicated our stance to the player involved. While I hope to keep the details of the handling internal, it is certain that such behavior is not tolerated, and we have taken the necessary steps.”

Currently, Preston North End’s performance in the EFL Championship is poor, having accumulated only 8 points after 8 rounds, ranking 21st and close to the relegation zone.
