Spanish Media: Intense Schedule Pushes Players to the Limit; Dozens Injured Within Hours

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, as many as 14 players have been injured in La Liga within just 48 hours, causing significant concern.

The recent fixture congestion has placed immense physical pressure on the players. In the latest round of La Liga matches alone, 14 players had to withdraw due to injuries, a number that exceeds the size of a standard matchday squad. This situation not only affects the team’s competitive strength but also poses a threat to the players’ careers.

Facing such a severe situation, players are under unprecedented pressure. Ter Stegen, Agirrezabal, Mamor, Marvin, Muric, Barrenetxea, Carvajal, Mingueza, Isaac Romero, Sol, Ozkakar, Amara, Bach, and Azpilicueta all joined the injury list within a short period, making people realize the seriousness of the issue.

Worse still, the new round of matches starting this Tuesday did not leave enough recovery time for the teams. Taking Rayo Vallecano as an example, after their match against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, they will face Girona on Wednesday, with less than 72 hours to adjust. Additionally, among the nine games already played, only the match between Getafe and Leganes saw no player injuries, which is quite rare.

In light of such a high injury rate, Javier Tebas, President of La Liga, had to acknowledge the plight faced by the players. “We do need to consider the health of the players,” said Tebas, “The current fixture density is indeed too high, and we should not add more competitions. It poses a direct threat to the players’ health and also affects the healthy development of the entire football ecosystem.”

Clearly, the football world urgently needs to find an effective solution. Having 14 players injured per round is unsustainable for any league, especially for La Liga, which is considered one of the best leagues in the world.
