Every Sports: Lewandowski Recommends Signing Szczęsny; Barça Needs to Pay Compensation to Juventus if Approved

According to Spain’s Sport, in order to fill the void left by the injured Ter Stegen, Barcelona has decided to bring in Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny as their top choice for strengthening the squad. Despite Szczęsny announcing his retirement this summer, Barcelona believes he is the best candidate to fill this gap.

However, before officially finalizing the transfer, Barcelona needs Szczęsny to settle his contractual matters with his former club Juventus. According to the termination clause, if Szczęsny joins a top club before a specific date, he must pay a certain amount of compensation to Juventus. Although this fee is not too high, Barcelona still hopes that Szczęsny will resolve this issue first before proceeding with the transfer procedures.

Previously, Szczęsny and Juventus reached an agreement to terminate his contract, which was originally due to expire on June 30, 2025, ahead of schedule. When explaining this decision, he said, “My physical condition is still good, but my heart no longer belongs here.” Given that this termination was not a normal expiration, Juventus hopes that a small penalty clause will be triggered if Szczęsny transfers to another team within the next few months. The current issue lies in whether negotiations between the goalkeeper and Juventus can cancel this clause or if Szczęsny will have to pay the fee.

Szczęsny is very interested in joining Barcelona, despite knowing that he will only be a temporary solution and may not immediately secure a starting position.

It is reported that Lewandowski strongly recommended his compatriot join Barcelona, and Barcelona’s head coach Flick also knows this player well, considering Szczęsny has always played for top-level teams. Flick believes he can bring positive contributions to the team, though Barcelona has not guaranteed him a starting position but instead requires him to earn it through competition, just like Iñaki Peña or Agustín. At the same time, the coaching staff hopes that this transfer can be completed quickly so that Szczęsny can start his personal training as soon as possible, expected to be ready for play by the end of October.
