Suspected Concussion: Former Manchester United Player Chen Dayi's Immobility on the Pitch Raises Concerns

In the early hours of September 28, during the seventh round of the 2024/25 EFL Championship where Luton Town lost 1-3 to Plymouth Argyle, former Manchester United player Chen Dayi fell to the ground and remained motionless, causing concern.

The incident occurred just before the end of the first half when Chen Dayi collided fiercely with a Plymouth player and fell to the ground. “The former Manchester United player was lying motionless at the edge of the penalty area,” wrote the British media.

After Chen Dayi fell, players from both teams immediately signaled for medical personnel to enter the field. After some care, this Dutch player regained consciousness. He was able to stand up and walk to the technical area on his own.

Chen Dayi had a large swelling on his forehead after the collision. At the start of the second half, he was substituted, with Jacob Brown coming on in his place.

Luton Town’s head coach Rob Edwards revealed after the game: “Chen Dayi is now conscious and well. We will conduct tests to assess the extent of any concussion. He feels a bit sore but is otherwise fine.”

Chen Dayi joined Luton from Birmingham City last summer and has made 38 appearances for the team. However, Luton was relegated from the Premier League last season. This versatile player started his career at Old Trafford but only made five appearances for the Manchester United first team.

In the seventh round of the EFL Championship, Plymouth, coached by Wayne Rooney, performed better and won 3-1. After securing two consecutive victories, the team’s situation has improved. They have 8 points after 7 games, ranking 13th in the EFL Championship. Meanwhile, Luton ranks 16th.
