Mao Jianqing Heatedly Discusses Shanghai Derby: Malele Doesn’t Match the Current Shenhua; He’s Truly a Pure Disruptor

On September 26, in last night’s FA Cup semi-final, Shanghai Port defeated Shanghai Shenhua 3-2 at home and advanced to the final. In this match, Malele scored a goal in the dying moments but failed to turn the tide. After the game, former Shenhua player Mao Jianqing commented in a social media video that Malele doesn’t match the current Shenhua, he’s truly a pure disruptor.

Mao Jianqing said: “Malele doesn’t match the current Shenhua team. As a starting forward, Malele should be playing better now than before because Shenhua used to lack a system and relied entirely on foreign players. The ball was passed to them and they had to handle it themselves. Now, Shenhua relies on a system, and Malele is not someone who relies on his own ability; he depends on his teammates’ passes, then takes the ball in himself—all of this is based on teamwork. You’re not a player like Moreno.”

“When Malele comes on, everyone gives him ‘ammunition,’ but he wastes opportunities. Although he can score a goal in every game, how many scoring chances do his teammates create for him? If he had scored when it was 1-1, it would have been 2-1, and there would still have been a chance to equalize later. (Malele) is purely a disruptor.”
