UK Media: Former Paris Saint-Germain Goalkeeper Sergio Rico Set to Join Qatari Team, Once Nearly Died After Being Kicked in the Head by a Horse

On September 25, according to the Daily Mail, former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico is set to join Qatar Stars League’s Al-Gharafa Sports Club.

Sergio Rico has previously played for teams such as Sevilla, Fulham, Paris Saint-Germain, and Mallorca throughout his career. In May 2023, Rico was involved in an accident while horseback riding when his horse got spooked, threw him off, and kicked him in the head. The injuries were severe, causing him to be in a coma for three weeks, nearly costing him his life. If Rico successfully joins Al-Gharafa, he could be back on the professional football pitch as early as next month.

During his career, Rico has won numerous accolades, including four Ligue 1 titles, three Europa League titles, three Coupe de France titles, one Coupe de la Ligue title, and one Trophée des Champions title. After his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired in the summer of 2024, he has remained a free agent. For the 31-year-old Rico, there is still a chance to prove himself again after suffering such a serious injury.
