Australia Men’s National Team Official Announcement: Former Lazio Player Paul Okon and Three Others Join Coaching Staff to Assist Poppa in Upcoming Qualifiers

On September 30, the Australia men’s national team officially announced that former Australian international Paul Okon, Hayden Foxe, and Frank Juric have joined the national team coaching staff as assistant coaches to support new head coach Poppa in the upcoming World Cup Asian Qualifiers Round 18 matches.

Among them, the most famous is 52-year-old former Australian international Paul Okon. As one of the players from the “golden generation” of Australian football, Okon once played for multiple European teams including Club Brugge, Lazio, and Fiorentina. After retiring and entering the coaching field, Okon has served as a coach for Australia’s U18, U20, and U23 teams, and also coached the A-League team Central Coast Mariners from 2016 to 2018.

The other assistant coach, Hayden Foxe, is a former subordinate of the current Australian head coach and has served as an assistant to Poppa at two A-League teams, Western Sydney Wanderers and Perth Glory. During his playing career, Foxe had stints with West Ham United and Portsmouth.

The last, Frank Juric, is a goalkeeping coach and also a former Australian international goalkeeper. During his playing days, he spent five years playing for the Bundesliga powerhouse Bayer Leverkusen.
