Bayern Munich vs. Bayer Leverkusen Referee Announced: Same Official from Last Season’s Win Over Bayern

According to German publication Kicker, the referee for the upcoming Bundesliga clash between Bayern Munich and defending champions Bayer Leverkusen has been announced. The match will be officiated by German referee Felix Zwayer.

Zwayer, 43 years old and born in Berlin, Germany, became a FIFA referee in 2012 and has 12 years of experience. Statistics show that he has refereed 655 official matches so far, issuing a total of 2787 yellow cards, 78 second yellows leading to red cards, 52 direct red cards, and overseeing 186 penalties.

During the UEFA Euro 2024, Zwayer officiated four matches: two group stage games (Italy 2-1 Albania, Portugal 3-0 Turkey) and two knockout stage games (Netherlands 3-0 Romania in the Round of 16, England 2-1 Netherlands in the semi-final). In these four matches, he issued a total of 19 yellow cards, no red cards, and one penalty.

Throughout his career, Zwayer has refereed 45 matches involving Bayern Munich, where the team achieved 35 wins, 3 draws, and 7 losses, with 7 penalties awarded across those matches. He has also refereed 33 matches featuring Bayer Leverkusen, in which the team won 17, drew 7, and lost 9, with 5 penalties awarded in these matches.

Notably, in the last four matches Bayern Munich played under Zwayer’s officiating, they lost three times: a 1-3 defeat to Mainz in April 2023, a 1-5 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in December 2023, and a 0-3 loss to Bayer Leverkusen in February 2024. Last season, Zwayer officiated three matches involving Bayer Leverkusen against Köln, Bayern Munich, and Stuttgart, with Leverkusen maintaining an undefeated record of 2 wins and 1 draw.
