On September 30, the national team announced the latest roster for the World Cup Qualifiers’ 18-team stage, which included Wu Lei and Alan, who were previously injured. However, according to the Beijing Youth Daily, their participation is still uncertain, and the national team does not rule out adding players before departing for Australia.
Shanghai Port officially announced today that Wu Lei’s injury assessment shows no obvious signs of rib fractures, but there is intense pain in the affected area accompanied by a certain degree of breathing difficulty, requiring further review.
It is understood that due to injuries sustained by Alan and Wu Lei, their participation remains uncertain. The coaching staff has decided to call up Wei Shihao, an attacking winger recently cleared from suspension, to join the team. After the “coaching change turmoil,” head coach Ivan continued to evaluate players in the previous cycle, but the coaching staff did not find many standout young players. Therefore, this roster, aside from some players being unable to participate due to injuries, largely retains the selections from September.
The Beijing Youth Daily further pointed out that the national team will adapt flexibly based on the injury and recovery status of Alan and Wu Lei. Should the situation be unsatisfactory, the coaching staff will not rule out the possibility of temporarily adding other players to the squad before the team departs for Australia.
The national team will face Australia away on October 10 and play against Indonesia at home in Qingdao on October 15.
