Catalan Media Reveals Szczesny's Salary at Barcelona: Only 3 Million Euros Pre-Tax Until the End of the Season

On October 2, FC Barcelona officially announced that the 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will join the club on a free transfer. Previously, Szczesny had announced his retirement.

At Barcelona, given that German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen will be out for the rest of the season due to injury, sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick invited Szczesny to strengthen the team’s defensive depth and avoid over-reliance on Iñaki Peña and young goalkeepers from La Masia.

Facing Barcelona’s offer, Szczesny decided to come out of retirement and signed a short-term contract with the club until the end of the current season. Ter Stegen’s injury provided Barcelona with salary cap flexibility, allowing them to use up to 80% of their salary space for this signing. Additionally, Barcelona also had the opportunity to add Szczesny to their Champions League squad list.

According to Sport, Barcelona offered Szczesny a pre-tax salary of approximately 3 million euros for the remainder of the season. The salary terms did not become an obstacle in negotiations, and both parties quickly reached an agreement. It is reported that Szczesny is very excited about joining Barcelona, and his compatriot Robert Lewandowski played a certain role in facilitating this transfer. Their conversation during a holiday in Marbella further accelerated the progress of the transfer.
