Young Referee to Officiate Madrid Derby; Last Season's Penalty Call Witnessed Real Madrid's Draw Away at Las Palmas

On September 26, the Spanish Football Federation announced the list of referees for this round of La Liga matches. Among them, the referee Busquets Ferrer, who is only 30 years old, will officiate the Madrid derby.

Ferrer has never before officiated an Atletico Madrid match, and this will be his first encounter with Simeone as the main referee.

Looking at his professional resume, Ferrer refereed one Real Madrid La Liga match in each of the past two seasons. In the 23/24 season, he witnessed Real Madrid’s 5-0 home victory over Alaves, while last season he was present for Real Madrid’s tough 1-1 draw away at Las Palmas. Notably, in that match last season, Real Madrid benefited from Ferrer’s decisive penalty call to equalize the score.
