Fox Sports reporter Montes exclusively reported that Mexican football legend Guardado, who currently plays for Leon, is considering retirement.
Guardado is now 37 years old, playing as a midfielder. He is undoubtedly the core figure of Mexican football and has participated in five World Cups, four Gold Cups, and two Copa Americas. He holds the record for the most appearances with the Mexican national team, having played 179 games and scoring 28 goals, ranking him 10th on the Mexican national team’s all-time top scorers list. He started his career at Atlas and later played for Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, PSV Eindhoven, Bayer Leverkusen, and Real Betis. In January 2024, Guardado ended his 17-year European career and returned to Mexico to join Leon.
It is understood that Guardado is still fully committed to Leon, and he plans to make a decision before the end of this season. His contract runs until 2025, but injuries have affected his form.
