According to German media reports, after Ter Stegen will be out for a long period due to a knee injury, the German Football Association (DFB) has not yet discussed the possibility of recalling the 38-year-old veteran Neuer to the team.
After this year’s European Championship, the 38-year-old Neuer announced his retirement from the German national team, thus passing the number one goalkeeper position to Ter Stegen. However, now, due to the latter suffering a serious injury that may keep him out for 7-9 months, the German team has to reconsider the selection of their main goalkeeper once again.
However, according to German media reports, the DFB has not yet started discussions on whether to invite Neuer back. Neuer himself is unwilling to make a public response to the matter.
Additionally, Germany’s head coach Nagelsmann, when talking about Ter Stegen’s injury, said: “We are very shocked by this news. We will miss Marc a lot in the national team, both on and off the pitch. We wish Marc all the best for his surgery and hope he can recover as soon as possible. We will always be with him and look forward to his return.”
