On September 30th, in the third round of the China Open Women’s Singles, the 5th seed Zheng Qinwen faced off against Podoroska.
In the first set, both players held their serves. In the third game, Zheng Qinwen gave away three break points, but then won three consecutive points to bring it to deuce, saving five break points to hold serve with difficulty. She then broke her opponent’s serve in the next game and held serve to take a 4-1 lead. The rest of the games were mutual holds, and Zheng Qinwen took the first set 6-3.
In the second set, both players started by holding their serves. In the fifth game, Zheng Qinwen obtained three consecutive break points and capitalized on the second opportunity with a straight winner, breaking her opponent’s serve. She then won four points in a row to give her opponent a Love game, leading 4-2. Thereafter, Zheng Qinwen continued to break and win the match on her serve.
Ultimately, Zheng Qinwen won 6-3, 6-2, easily defeating Podoroska with a dominant score of 2-0 to advance to the round of 16. In the next round, she will face Anisimova.
