In a video released by the French Football Federation on Tuesday, France’s national team coach Didier Deschamps revealed that forward Kylian Mbappé, despite feeling better on Tuesday morning, will indeed require surgery for his fractured nose, although the procedure will not be scheduled immediately. Deschamps stated that they will closely monitor Mbappé’s daily recovery progress to determine when he can return to the pitch for the 2024 European Championship.
Mbappé sustained the nasal fracture during Monday’s Group D opener against Austria. Deschamps explained, “We plan further examinations on Wednesday to monitor his recovery process. The collision was quite severe, and the medical team acted promptly to minimize the injury after the checks. Although surgery is not an immediate urgency, it will eventually be necessary. Mbappé’s condition has improved this morning, and we will keep a close eye on him day by day, focusing on his well-being.”
Deschamps added, “Additional tests will be conducted on Wednesday to ensure we have a comprehensive understanding of his recovery status.”
It is likely that Mbappé will miss upcoming matches against the Netherlands and Poland, but he is expected to return to action wearing a customized protective mask in subsequent games, continuing to lead the French team’s attack.
