Former Manchester City Manager: Ronaldo Seems Untrusted, Frequently Overlooked Despite Successful Runs

On June 19th, in the first round of Group F of the European Championship, Portugal overturned Czech Republic 2-1. Former Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce analyzed the match, suggesting that Portugal’s players seemed to lack trust in Ronaldo, ignoring his well-timed runs on several occasions.

Pearce questioned the team’s faith in Ronaldo, stating, “It might sound ridiculous, but I think the Portuguese players might not trust Ronaldo and are hesitant to pass to him. There were numerous instances in the game where he found himself in great positions, but his teammates didn’t play the ball to him.”

He gave a specific example, “There was one occasion when Ronaldo was in a good position on the right side of the box, and I was thinking if this were 10 years ago, his teammates would certainly have played it to him, and he’d have had a beautiful goal. But instead, Bernardo Silva passed it into a crowded central area, leading to the ball being intercepted by the opposition. Bernardo’s choice there was quite perplexing to me.”
