According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, Serie A club AS Roma has entered the race to sign Mats Hummels, with the club’s top brass already in contact with the player’s representatives.
The 35-year-old defender made 40 appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season, scoring four goals and providing one assist, demonstrating strong form in both the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League. Dortmund has previously announced that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Hummels was reportedly earning €3.7 million per year at Dortmund, but given that he would be available on a free transfer, such a wage demand is not seen as an obstacle for Roma.
