Premier League Bias? Manchester United to Start Eighth Consecutive Season at Home, Setting New EPL Record

On June 18, the Premier League announced its schedule for the 24/25 season, with Manchester United hosting Fulham in the opening match. This makes Manchester United the first team in Premier League history to play their opening game at home for eight seasons in a row.

The last time Manchester United began a new campaign away from home was in the 16/17 season, when they defeated Bournemouth 3-1. However, the team finished that season in sixth place in the league table.

Since then, Manchester United has started each season’s league fixtures at Old Trafford. Here is a summary of their opening round results (note: the 20/21 season’s opener was postponed, so the loss to Crystal Palace was actually in the second round):

17/18 Season: Manchester United 4-0 West Ham

18/19 Season: Manchester United 2-1 Leicester City

19/20 Season: Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea

20/21 Season: Manchester United 1-3 Crystal Palace

21/22 Season: Manchester United 5-1 Leeds United

22/23 Season: Manchester United 1-2 Brighton

23/24 Season: Manchester United 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
