In Jakarta – Factory KTM Red Bull rider Dani Pedrosa secured the third position on the podium for the 2024 Spanish MotoGP Sprint race on Saturday, April 27th, after a penalty was imposed on Fabio Quartararo.
The decision came following an eight-second penalty for Quartararo, who had violated tire pressure regulations in the sprint. This allowed Pedrosa to advance from fourth place to third, sharing the podium alongside race winner Jorge Martin and runner-up Pedro Acosta.
Quartararo, riding for Monster Energy Yamaha, finished fifth, behind Franco Morbidelli, after serving his penalty, which left him 15.052 seconds behind Martin. Prior to the penalty, he was only 7.052 seconds behind the winner.
This marked Pedrosa’s first podium finish of the 2024 MotoGP Sprint season, with the 28-year-old downgraded from the factory KTM Red Bull machine. The 2024 Spanish MotoGP Sprint saw its fair share of drama, with numerous riders crashing before the end.
Notably, Marc Marquez, who led for four laps, also fell but continued the race, finishing seventh. The track had rain just before the start, making conditions challenging for the riders.
