Aprilia Still Hasn’t Given Up on the MotoGP Championship Ahead of 2022 Malaysian GP

The factory Aprilia racing team is showing great enthusiasm ahead of the 2022 Malaysian MotoGP this weekend. Despite having only a few races left, they have not given up on their championship aspirations.

Aprilia Team Manager Massimo Rivola revealed this, stating that his team must remain determined to fight as much as possible at the Sepang circuit.

According to reports from Corsedimoto on Wednesday, Aleix Espargaró has been the cornerstone rider for Aprilia in their quest for the 2022 MotoGP title. However, he has had a disappointing run in the last three rounds in Japan, Thailand, and Australia.

In the previous race at Phillip Island, Espargaró managed only seven points from ninth place. In fact, if he had entered the top three, Espargaró could have closed in on Fabio Quartararo, who failed to score points at the time.

Espargaró missed this golden opportunity, allowing Francesco Bagnaia, a Ducati rider, to take advantage. Bagnaia secured third place, swapping positions with Quartararo in the standings.

Now, to overtake Bagnaia, Espargaró needs to bridge a 27-point gap. With two races remaining, the task is challenging but not impossible for him to grab the top spot.

Nonetheless, Massimo Rivola hopes that Aleix Espargaró and Aprilia will end the season as champions, as they don’t want to be praised merely for having a good season.

As such, the boss asks his riders to be ready for the next 2022 Malaysian MotoGP round with the aim of keeping their championship hopes alive until the final race in Valencia.

“I don’t care what has happened this season; here, we want to fight for the title until the end. We are not here just to say ‘good season, good season,’” Massimo Rivola said, quoted by Corsedimoto.

“We have to bite the bullet and go to Malaysia. But first, we need to understand what happened there, something that is not allowed on this track, as we lost an important point today (in Australia),” he insisted.
