Indonesia’s Mandalika Circuit Secures Third MotoGP Podium for Yamaha, Fabio Quartararo’s Impression

MotoGP at Mandalika Circuit, Indonesia

Yamaha MotoGP rider Fabio Quartararo expressed that securing a podium finish at the Indonesian MotoGP held at Mandalika Circuit was his best result of the season. “This is my best podium this year,” he said during a press conference on Sunday at the track. “Especially considering how I was about 8 seconds behind Marco Bezzecchia at the Indian GP and far from the winner despite getting on the podium,” he added.

In the Indonesian MotoGP, “El Diablo” came in just 0.433 seconds behind race winner Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo). He was also only 0.127 seconds behind second-place Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing). “I could have improved my position and speed even further, given my result,” he remarked.

Quartararo acknowledged the challenging start but fought hard, pushing himself to stay competitive until he didn’t trail the champion. “My pace was decent, and I was able to close in on Pecco (Bagnaia). I’m confident in my bike setup today,” he said.

The Frenchman expressed that the podium was a positive result, showcasing his speed, but acknowledged the desire for more when fighting for a podium spot. “It’s always great to be on the podium, and it motivates me for the remaining five rounds of the 2023 season,” he added.

Reflecting on the future, Quartararo highlighted the need for consistency in performance, as each circuit presents unique challenges with their Yamaha compared to the Ducati. “I’ve put a lot of effort into my riding style. Our bike is older than the Ducatis, and power limitations hinder our ability to push. We’re excited for the increased energy next year,” he shared.

In the meantime, the 16th round of the 2023 MotoGP season will take place at Phillip Island Circuit in Australia from October 20th to 22nd.
